Hokkaido: Muka River 2021 Part 2

This is the second half of my 2021 trip to the Muka River. I moved to a different stretch a bit further downstream for the afternoon.

Access and Fishing Notes

Directions: This stretch is about 10km upstream of Kitami-Yamato Post Office. From Asahikawa to the West or Kitami to the East, just follow route 39 all the way to the river. The road closely follows the river between the post office and the recycling centre.
Access: Access to the river is possible via a side track on the South side of the road. There is an area suitable for parking and a short walk down to the river from there.
Conditions: Weather was fine and warm with almost full cloud cover in the afternoon.
Technique: I used a 5-weight fly rod and floating, tapered line. Fished mostly upstream with a mixture of dry fly patterns.
Fish: The stretch below the bridge was absolutely chock full of small rainbow trout and some Japanese native trout (Yamame).
