Panorama Ginza Day 5 - Kamikochi

Day 5 of Panorama Ginza, There's time for a leisurely breakfast as it's only a short walk to Kamikochi. The path to the North of the river is slightly longer but more interesting than the path to the South.

The walk ends at Kamikochi bus station.

Route Notes

Start: Now that we're back close to civilisation, it's a leisurely start of 7.00am for breakfast and 8.00am start for walking.

We choose to take the path North of the river as it's more interesting than the path to the South and only 500m longer.

We cross the bridge again as we did the day before but then turn West and stay close to the river.

1km: The track follows the river for a while but then turns into the forest towards the stream flowing out of Myojin Pond.

Being so close to Kamikochi it's a well defined and well maintained track, a mixture of gravel track, forest walks and board walks.

We cross the Myojin stream over a wooden bridge.

3.3km: After a couple more kilometres of easy walking, we pass through Dakesawa marsh. The path is all raised board walk here to protect the marsh.

There's a viewing platform at a scenic spot that gives us a view of a shallow lagoon with Roppyakusan in the background.

4.9km: From the viewing platform at Dakesawa marsh it's an easy walk to Kappabashi bridge at Kamikochi.

We have plenty of time so we stop for apple pie at one of the cafes and then go to the visitor centre to the North-East of the bridge. It's worth a visit for some great mountain photos.

We finally set off for the bus station a few hundred metres from the bridge, stopping to take a last photo of the bridge with the Hotaka range behind.
