Narrabeen Lagoon Circuit

This is an easy, flat walk around the main section of Narrabeen Lagoon (upstream of the bridge). All parts of the track are easy walking along a wide dirt or prepared surface track.

The track is often busy with walkers and cyclists and runs next to a main road in places, so is not for those looking for quiet walking.

Route Notes

Start: There are paid parking areas at various places around the lagoon. If you want to avoid paying for parking, you may find a spot on one of the side streets in Narrabeen and walk down to the lagoon.

This walk starts at one of the side streets and goes clockwise around the lagoon, but you can go in either direction.

When you reach the lakeside, there's a clear wide path to follow with lots of benches if you want to stop for a rest.

0.8km: For about the first kilometre from our starting point at Devitt Road, the track follows the lagoon closely and you get good views towards the North and West over the water.
1.0km: After 1 kilometre, the track turns slightly away from the lake and into some bushland. The track here is a winding dirt track.
1.1km: The track goes through a mixture of open bush and more dense forest. Much of the track on this section has wooden barriers on each side. Watch out for cyclists on the twisty sections (they sometimes don't slow down!).
1.7km: Watch out for wildlife, especially birds, through the bush sections. There's a bird on the tree in this photo.
2.0km: Just past the point, the track goes back to the lakeside before turning back into the bush.
3.6km: After about another 1.5km through the bush, the track comes out at the first bridge, which crosses South Creek .
4.2km: After following the lakeside for another 600km, you come to the second bridge, crossing Middle Creek.
4.6km: The track passes alongside a car park and a boat ramp, before going into a narrow strip of bushland between the lake and Wakehurst Parkway (main road).
4.8km: The track here is a raised grid surface. Due the nearby main road, there can be quite a lot of traffic noise on this section. If you're after a remote walk, this is probably not the one for you.
6.2km: The track continues between the road and the lake, crossing another bridge, over Deep Creek. At one section, the road is so close to the lake that there's no room for the track so a walkway has been constructed over the water.
6.8km: The road moves away from the lake a little and you pass another car park and boat ramp. This is a good spot for launching windsurfers.
7.9km: Shortly after the car park, the track joins the road and you make your way alongside the road to the main bridge across the lagoon. After the bridge, follow the lakeside track past some restaurants, cafe's and boat houses back to the starting point.
