| The Shari River in North-Eastern Hokkaido rises in the mountains to the North-East of Akan-Mashu national park and eventually runs into the sea at Shari on the North coast. In this stretch, you can take a short side trip to see the Cherry Salmon attempting to jump Sakura Falls.
Native Japanese trout (yamame and iwana) are the target here.

| The Tobetsu River in North-Eastern Hokkaido is a tributary of the Kushiro River, joining it at Teshikaga. Access was straightforward with a mixture of easily wade-able sections and some deeper pools. Suits a 4-6 weight outfit on this stretch.
No fish caught on this trip but large trout observed. |
